Welcome to Trinity Cathedral Youth Activities
Our classes and activities are directed by the Rev. Anne Dryden McKeever, a priest with a background in youth education. Our youth program's success depends upon the active involvement of parents in the classroom and at all our activities. We offer a safe environment for young people to explore their faith, to ask questions, to seek support in their lives, and to have fun. Please contact Rev. Anne at 530-666-3556 or amckeever@wavecable.com if you have any questions or would like to get involved.
Our High School Sunday School class meets every Sunday from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. in classroom E, upstairs above the Great Hall. Please enter and exit via the back door at the top of the stairs in the alley parking area. Young people in the 9th through 12th grades are welcome. We find connections between the words of Holy Scripture and our own lives.
Our Junior High Sunday School class meets every Sunday from 10:15-11:15 a.m. in classroom D, at the top of the stairs in the Great Hall near classroom A. Young people in grades 6th, 7th and 8th grades are welcome. We follow the curriculum of Seasons of the Spirit, a lectionary-based program that connects Holy Scripture to everyday life.
Our youth group, Episcopal Youth Fellowship, meets twice a month, often on Sunday evenings from 5:30-8 p.m. EYF meetings include prayer, dinner and a program such as games, films, guest speakers, music and presentations. We participate in fundraisers throughout the year, making and selling gingerbread houses in December and pizza in January. EYF students, their friends and parents take turns cooking and serving dinner for 100 women and children residing at St. John's Shelter every fourth Saturday of the month. We go on a ski trip to the Tahoe area in the winter. Three times a year we serve as cooks, servers, entertainers and buddies for the younger Trinity children entrusted in our care at Ditch the Parents Night, another fundraiser.
Our youth are invited to participate in two Mission Projects: a weekend experience in January and a week-long mission for older students in the summer. Young people willing to learn construction and landscaping skills that will benefit clients of non-profit organizations are encouraged to seek the challenge of a mission experience. In 2011, younger students served at a weekend mission project in Oak Park and older students served a mission week in Urban Los Angeles.
Our youth Catechumenate (Confirmation Class) is for young people 15 and older who feel called to affirm the promises made for them at their baptism. We offer two opportunites to attend a seven-week series during the Sunday School hour in classroom E, following the program I Will, With God's Help. Young people who would like to be baptized are encouraged to contact a Trinity priest to arrange a meeting, along with parents, to discuss the Baptismal Covenant and to schedule the baptism during a Sunday morning service. In baptism you are welcomed into the Christian community and sealed as Christ's own forever.
Trinity youth are encouraged to participate in many ministries including Acolytes, Ushers, Altar Guild, Lectors, Children's Chapel Ministers, Celebration Choir and Coffee Hour Hospitality.
Graduating Seniors are invited to two special events: our Diocesan Baccalaureate Service in May for all high school seniors in the diocese and our Trinity Senior Send-Off in June when all the EYF students and parents gather to celebrate the end of Sunday School year and to honor our graduating seniors.
